Syntymäpäivä Birthday

 

 Emilia vietti syntymäpäiväänsä eilen. Samalla vietettiin Halloweenia. Emilia oli kutsunut parhaat ystävänsä juhlaan. Juhlassa olivat pikkuveli Eetu, hänen vieressään Minni. Emilia itse istuu pöydän päässä. Eetua vastapäätä istuu Sanni ja hänen vieressään Ulla.

Äiti oli leiponut hämähäkiverkkokakun ja haamuleivoksia. Ne maistuivat herkulliselta. 

Emily celebrated her birthday yesterday. At the same time she and the friends celebrated Halloween. Emily had invited her best friends to the party. Emily´s little brother Eetu is sitting at the table. Minnie is sitting next to Eetu. Sanni is sitting opposite Eetu and Ulla is sitting next to her.

Mother had baked a spiderwebcake and chost pastries. They were delicious.

        Myös vanhemmat oli kutsuneet vieraita.  He joivat kahvia musiikkihuoneessa.

        Also the parents had invited guests. They had coffee in the music room.

Äiti oli leiponut kurpitsapiirakan ja suklaatäytekakun. Kaupasta oli ostettu pikkuleipiä ja makeisia. 

Mother had baked a pumpkin pie and a chocolatecake. Some cookies and candies had been bought from the shop.

Sieniä Mushrooms

 

Marianne on ollut metsässä keräämässä sieniä. Hän on löytänyt kanttarelleja ja tatteja. Metsässä oli paljon monenlaisia sieniä, mutta hän ei tunnista niitä. Sää on muuttunut nyt kylmäksi, joten oli viime hetket käydä keräämässä niitä.

Marianne has been in the forest and collected mushrooms. She has found chanterelles and tatters. There were many different kinds of mushrooms in the forest, but she doesn't recognize them The weather has turned cold, so now it was the last minute to collect them.

 

Eetu on äidin kanssa keittiössä ja hän yrittää löytää sienikirjoista äidin tuomien sienien nimet.

Eetu is in the kitchen with his mom and he is trying to find out the names of the mushrooms in mushroom books.

Marianne paistaa kanttarelleja paistinpannulla ja valmistaa niistä jotakin herkullista ruokaa.

Marianne fries chanterelles in a frying pan and preparse some delicious food from them.

Pumpkins and an applepie

Meillä Suomessa ei kurpitsoiden kasvatus onnistu joka vuosi, koska ei ole tarpeeksi lämmintä. On helpompi saada nukkekodin kurpitsoita, jos on jonkinlaiset taidot tehdä niitä.

In Finland, we do not succeed in growing pumpkins every year because it is not warm enough. It is easier to get dollhouse pumpkins. if you have some skills to make them.

 

Mariannella on ollut onnea kurpitsoiden suhteen. Hänellä on niitä monen värisiä ja hän on niistä iloinen.

 Marianne has been lucky with pumpkins. He has them in many colors and he is happy with them.

Itse kasvatetuista omenoistakin voi olla iloinen. Niistä voi tehdä hilloa, menua ja piirakkaa. Lapset syövät juuri nyt kermavaahdon ja kylmän maidon kanssa herkullista omenapiirakkaa.

You can also be happy about home-grown apples. They can be used for jam, juice and pie. Right now, the children are eating delicious apple pie with whipped cream and cold milk.

Piirakassa on punaisia talviomenoita, jotka kypsyvät vasta syksyllä ennen pakkasten tuloa.

There are red winter apples in the pie, which ripen in autumn just before the frost

Pizza lauantai Pizza Saturday

Marianne on leiponut pizzaa, mutta vain Eetu on tarpeeksi näkäinen.

Marianne has baked pizza, but only Eetu is hungry enough to eat it.

 Emiliankin on saapunut pöytään. Hän haistoi pizzan ihanan hajun.

 Emily has also arrived at the table. He smelled the wonderful smell of pizza.

 

Tuomo saapui viimeisenä. Hän ihmetteli keittiöstä kuuluvaa puheensorinaa, mutta ei ollut kuullut, että häntä olisi kutsuttu syömään. (Häntä on kutsuttu useita kertoja.)

Tuomo arrived last. He wondered at the murmur from the kitchen, but had not heard that he had been called to eat. (several times, indeed).

Syystunnelma Autumn mood

 

Marianne ja Tuomo katselevat televisiota. Pian alkaa heidän suosikkiohjelmansa MasterChef Australia. Kilpailijat ovat heille tuttuja aikaisemmista ohjelmista ja heissä on mukavia persoonia. Uudet tuomarit ovat onnistuneet tehtävässään hyvin.

Marianne and Tuomo are watching TV. Their favourite program MasterChef Australia is starting soon. They know the competitors from the previos years and there are lovely persons among them. The new judges have succeeded in their task very well.

Eetu ja Emiliakin ovat tulleet katsomaan. Mutta heitä ohjelma ei kauaa kiinnostanut.

Eetu and Emily have arrived too to watch the program. But they were not interested in it.

Äiti on stailannut olohuonetta kurpitsoilla ja tekstiileillä.

Mother has styled the living room with pumpkins and textiles.

Piirongin päällä on valkoisia kurpitsoita ja arkun päällä oransseja ja kellertäviä.

There are white pumpkins on the cabinet and orange and yellowish pumpkins on the chest.

Staying at home 3

Mitä sinä syöt lohturuokana nyt? Emilia ja Eetu rakastavat pannukakkuja hillon ja kermavaahdon kanssa.Sekä tietenkin kylmän maidon kanssa.

What do you like to eat as comfort food now? Emily and Eetu love pancakes with jam and whipped cream and of course with cold milk.

Mutta jonkun oli tehtävä pannukatkut ensin. Emilia tietää, miten niitä tehdään. Mutta hän ei ollut aivan varma kaikista vaiheista. Joten hän ei antanut Eetun sekaantua tähän tärkeään tehtävään.
Pannukakut onnistuivat täydellisesti!

But somebody has to make the pancakes at first. Emily knows how to make them. But she was not quite sure about all details. She did not allow Eetu to interfere with this important task.
The pancakes succeeded perfectly!

Leivo ja maista Bake and taste

Joulutortut ovat ehkä perinteisin joululeivonnainen meillä Suomessa. Suomalaiset tietävät, että ne tehdään voitaikinasta tai lehtitaikinasta. Ne ovat tähden muotoisia ja niissä on perinteisesti luumumarmeladia täytteenä.

Nykyään ne voivat olla muunkin muotoisia ja täytteenä voi olla jotain muuta marmeladia.

Christmas tarts are the most traditional Christmas pastry in Finland. We Finns know that they  are made from puff pastry. They are in the shape of a star or pinwheel and filled with prune jam.

The pastries can be in other shapes too and apple is used in place of the prune jam.

Uunissa niistä tulee ruskeareunaisia. Emilia tietää, että ne maistuvat parhaimmilta lämpiminä kylmän maidon kanssa.

After baking in the oven, they become brown in the edges. Emily knows that a hot pastry tastes best with cold milk.

Nykyään monet ostavat kaupasta valmista taikinaa, joka on usein pakastettuja levyjä, joista tulee aina 2 torttua. Niistä leipominen on todella nopeaa ja helppoa. Monissa naiset ovat Suomessa työssäkäyviä, joten iltaisin on hyvin vähän aikaa valmistautua jouluun.

Nowadays many housewifes buy frozen doughplates from a shop to save time. It is easy and quick to bake from them. In Finland the women are embloyed and they have so little time in the everings to prepare for the Christmas.

Eilen Yesterday

Emila, Eetu, Marianne ja Tuomo viettivät ystävänpäivää eilen niin kuin monet muutkin tekivät. Siis herkutellen.

Emily, Eetu, Marianne and Tuomo celebrated Valentine´s Day yesterday in the same way than many others did. I mean they ate delicacies.

Lapsilla on päivittäin pieniä tehtäviä, josta he saavat viikkorahaa. Nyt he ovat kattaneet pöydän äidin ohjeitten mukaan. Pöydällä on uusi pöytäliina, jossa on hauskoja kuppikakun kuvia.

The children have small daily tasks for their pocket money. They have set the table now according to mother´s instuctions. There is a new table cloth on the table. It has been printed with pictures of acupcakes.
 

Kun kaikki oli valmiina, istui Eetu heti odottamaan vanhempia. Emilia kyllä sanoi hänelle, että pitää odottaa rauhassa.

When everything was ready, Eetu sat immediately to wait for the parents. Emily told him to wait still. 

Äiti on leiponut marjapiirakan, joka näyttää herkulliselta. Juomalasissa on vaaleanpunaisen paperin sisällä suklaatankoja.

Mom has made a berry pie that looks delicious. There are chocolate bars covered with pink paper in the glass.

Isä oli käynyt ostamassa kukkakaupasta vaaleanpunaisia tulppaaneja. Hän halusi yllättää vaimonsa niillä. Mutta voitteko uskoa, että äitikin oli käynyt kukkakaupassa ja ostanut myös tulppaaneja, mutta ne olivat onneksi vähän erilaisia.


Dad had gone to buy pink tulips from a flower shop. He wanted to surprise his wife. But can you believe that mom had gone to a flower shop too and also bought tulips, but fortunately they were a little bit different.

Robin

Muu perhe herkutteli eilen olohuoneessa, mutta Emilia oli yksin huoneessaan. Lupasin kertoa teille, mitä hän teki. Hän kuunteli musiikkia, eikä kuullut, vaikka häntä pyydettiin tulemaan olohuoneeseen. Hän kuuntelin Robinin musiikkia. Robin on ihana laulaja. Hiljattain hänestä on kirjoitettu kirjakin, jonka Emilia sai joulupukilta.

The other family members, except Emily, were eating sweets in the living room yesterday and Emily was alone in her room. I promised to tell you, what she was doing. She listened to the music and did not hear that she was asked to come to the living room. She listened to Robin´s musik. Robin is a lovely singer. It has been published a book about him recently and Emily got it as a gift from Santa.

Emilialla on Robinin julistekin seinällä. Robin alkoi laulaa 14-vuotiaana ja nyt 19-vuotiaana hän pitää taukoa, koska hänen pitää nyt keskittyä opintoihinsa.

Emily has also Robin´s poster on the wall. Robin started his singing career at the age of 14. He is now 19 years and is going to have a break because he has to focus on his studies.

Emilialla on vielä jäljellä joulumakeisia kuten karkkikeppejä, tikkareita ja piparminttukarkkeja. Hän on syönyt niitä jo liikaa.

Emily has Christmas candies  left such as candy canes, lollipops and peppermint candies. She has eaten to much them.

Hauskaa vappua! Have a nice Walpurgis day!

Sima ja munkit kuuluvat suomalaiseen vappuun. Emilia ja äiti tekivät simaa 10 litraa ja munkkeja leivottiin paljon.

"Sima" lemonade and donuts are a part of Finnish Walpurgis Day. Emily and mother made 10 litres of sima and baked a lof of donuts.

Sima on vähän erilainen limonaadi. Sitä voi ostaa kyllä kaupastakin, mutta sitä on helppo tehdä. Tarvitaan vain sitruunoita, fariinisokeria, vettä ja hiivaa.

Sima differs from other lemondes a little bit. It can be bought in all store, but it is easy to make it, if you want. You need lemons, brown sugar, water and yeast.

 Emilian ja Eetun mielestä sima ja munkit maistuvat hyvältä.

Emily and Eetu like sima and donuts very much.

Lettuja Pancakes

Joskus mieli tekee jotakin hyvää syötävää, mutta kaapista ei löydy mitään. Silloin kannattaa tehdä lettuja.

Sometimes you wish something good to eat, but you can´t find anything from the cupboard. You should make then pancakes.

Lettujen tekeminen ei ole ollenkaan vaikeaa. Jos et onnistu ensimmäisellä kerralla, kannattaa yrittää uudestaan.

It is not difficult to make pancakes. If you don´t succeed in the first time, try again.

Meillä Suomessa on vielä talvi, mutta kevätaurinko on alkanut paistaa ikkunoista myös sisälle huoneisiin. Tummat sisustustekstiilit on kiva vaihtaa vaaleampiin. Keittiössä on tämän näköisiä tyynyjä ja pöytäliina.

There is still winter in Finland, but spring sun has started shining through the windows inside the rooms. It is nice to change lighter interior textiles instead of the dark ones. There are this kind of pillows and table cloth in the kitchen now.

Hyvää uutta vuotta 2017! Happy New Year 2017!

P.S. Emily got a red jumper and Eetu got a beige cardigan with blue stipes from Santa Claus. 

Makeita kakkuja, pikkuleipiä, suklaata ja karkkeja on syöty kylläkseen. Nyt on vuorossa muunlaiset herkut: juusto, viinirypäleet, kermakeksit ja  juustokeksit.

Almost everybody have eaten  sweet cakes, cookies, chocolate and candies enough. Salty treats will taste now very good: cheese, grapes, cream biscuits and cheese biscuits.

Jos jouluna tuli syötyä liian raskaasti on aika syödä terveellisempiä ruokia, kuten kalaa, babyporkkanoita, vihersalaattia, keitettyjä perunoita, nakkeja ja lihapullia.

If you ate too energy-rich food at Christmas it is now time to eat healthier food such as fish,  babycarrots, green salad, boiled potatoes, sausages and meat balls.

Emilia auttaa äitiä ruuanlaitossa joka päivä. Hän on kiinnostunut siitä.

Emily heps mother in cooking every day. She is interested in it.

Leivontapäivä Baking day

 Emilia ja mumma ovat leiponeet tänään limppuja, pullapitkoja, torttuja ja tähtipullia.

Emily and grandma have baked today loafs, plaits, star shaped pies, star buns.

Tortut on tehty kaupasta ostetusta valmistaikinasta. Tähtipullat ovat tavallista vehnäpullataikinaa ja päällä on murotaikinasta leivottu pikkuleipä.

The star shaped pies have been baked of the dough bought from a shop. The star buns are made of normal wheatdough and have small cookies on them.

Limppuja on leivottu kahden perinteisen mukaan. Tumma limppu on makeutettu siirapilla.
Pullapitkojen pinnalla on punaisia ja vihreitä kirsikoita koristeena sokerivesikuorrutteen seassa.

The loafs are made according to two traditional recipes. The dark one includes syrup to increase sweetnes. There are red and green cherries on the plaits among sugar icing.

Vierashuone Guestroom

Vierashuonetta on sisustettu jouluksi. Vaaleanpunaisesta hyasintista leviää huoneeseen ihanaa tuoksua.  Sängyllä näyttää olevan mumman käsilaukku. Hän on tullut paapan kanssa joulun viettoon Emilian kotiin.
Hyasintin olen tehnyt Fimosta.

The guestroom has been decorated for Christmas. A pink hyacinth spreads wonderful aroma around the room. Grandmothers handbag is on the bed. She has come with grandpa to celecbrate Christmas with Emily´s family.
I made the hyacinth of Fimo.

Äiti on ommellut tumman punaisia taftityynyjä sängylle ja nojatuolille.

Mother has sewn dark red taffeta pillows. They are on the bed and armchair.

Puutarhasta From the garden

Ruokiin saa hyvää makua valkosipuleilla ja oliiveilla. Valkosipulit tein Fimosta. 

Garlic and olives give good taste in food. I made the garlic from Fimo.

Oliivit näkyvät tässä kuvassa paremmin. Vaasissa olevat "kukat" ovat lempipensaastani, joka on Purppuraheisiangervo. "Kukat" ovat itse asiassa siemenkotia. (Varsinaiset oikeat kukat ovat vaalenpunaisia ja lehdet ovat alapinnaltaan vihreitä ja päältä tumman punaisia.)

You can see the olives better in this picture. The "flowers" in the vase are from my favourite bush Physocarpus opulifolius ´Lady in Red´. "The flowers" are in fact seed capsules. (The flowers are pink and the underside of the leaves is green and the top side is dark red.)

Tuoreet herneet ovat Käenkaalin siemenkotia. Tälläisiä söpöjä siemenpalkoja. Kuivuessaan siemenet lennähtävät ympäri huonetta, joten tämä ei ollut kovin hyvä idea.

The fresh peas are from Oxalis. The seed capsules are very cute. But  my idea was not a very good one, because the seed  bounce around the room when drying.

 Oliivit ovat Siperianhernepensaan siemenpalkojen sisältä löytyneitä. Kuivuessaan oliivit näyttävät edelleenkin hyviltä.

The olives are from Caragana arborencens bush. The seeds are from the pods. They are perfect for the dollhouse.

Tuoreet kukat ovat ihania. Niitä Mariannekin ihastelee mielellään.

Fresh flowers are lovely. Marianne loves them.
