Uudenvuoden aatto New Year´s Eve

 

Keittiössä tuoksuu taas ruoka. Nyt on katettu uudenvuoden aaton illallinen.

The food smells again in the kitchen. New Year's Eve dinner is now available.

Marianne leipoi2 iso pizzaa, patonkia ja muutaman sämpylän. Isä ja lapset ovat kyllästyneitä jouluruokiin. He voivat valita, syövätkö pizzaa vai keitettyjä perunoita, lihapullia ja nakkeja.

Marianne baked  two big pizzas, a baguette and a few rolls. Dad and kids are tired of Christmas food. They can choose between the pizza slices and boiled potatoes, meatballs and sausages.

 

Lihapullat ja nakit ovat arkiruokaa, mutta lapset haluaisivat niitäkin tänään.

 

Meatballs and sausages are everyday food, but children would like to have also them today.

 

Kaikilla on kova nälkä. Voitteko uskoa?

Everyone is very hungry. Can you believe?

 

Iltaa on vietettävä nyt kotona perheen kesken, koska tautitilanne on nyt huono.

The evening must now be spent at home with the family, because the disease situation is now bad.  

 Lapset eivät ole juoneet Coca-Colaa pitkään aikaan, mutta nyt heillä on yksi pullollinen. Vanhemmat juovat valkoviintä. Tarjolla on myös juustoja,viinirypäleitä ja suolakeksejä.

The kids haven’t drunk Coca-Cola for a long time, but they have one bottle now.  Parents drink white wine. Cheeses, grapes and crackers are also available.

Jouluaatto osa 3 Christmas Eve part 3

 

 

Joulupukki oli tuonut eteiseen säkillisen joululahjoja. Yleensä joulupukki tulee jokaiseen kotiin henkilökohtaisesti tuomaan lahjat jouluaattona. Mutta tänä vuonna hän ei voi tulla sisälle. Monessa perheessä on ollut joku perheenjäsen sairas ja joulupukki on voinut saada koronatartunnan.

Santa had brought a sack of Christmas presents to the hall. Usually Santa Claus will come to each home in person to bring presents on Christmas Eve. But this year he can't come inside. Many families have had a family member sick and Santa may have been infected with a corona.

Isä oli kantanut säkin olohuoneeseen Eetu ja Emilia tyhjensivät säkin ja laittoivat lahjat kuusen alle.

Dad had carried the sack to the living room. Eetu and Emily emptied the sack and put the presents under the Christmas tree.

Eetu ihmetteli, miten hänelle on isojakin lahjoja, vaikka hän on pieni poika.

Eetu wondered what big gifts he had, even though he was a little boy.

 

Emilia, isä ja äiti saivat myös monta lahjaa. Tässä vaiheessa kukaan ei ole vielä avannut yhtäkään lahjaa. Minkälaisia lahjoja he ovat mahtaneet saada?  Eetu sanoi, ettei hän halua esitellä lahjoja blogin seuraajille, koska lahjoissa saattoi olla joitakin noloja tavaroita. Hän on sen ikäinen, että kavereiden mielipide menee kaiken edelle.

Emily, father and mother also received many gifts. At this point, no one has opened any gifts yet. What kind of gifts have they received? Eetu said he didn’t want to present the gifts to the blog’s followers because the gifts might have some embarrassing stuff. He is the age that the opinion of friends goes above all else.

 Juustot ja suolakeksit maistuvat hyviltä makean glögin kanssa.  

Glögi on eräänlainen maustettu mehu, jonka pohjana voi olla mustaherukkamehu, omenamehu, sekahedelmämehu tai viini. Se maustetaan samoilla mausteilla kuin piparkakut. Se voi sisältää myös rusinoita ja mantelirouhetta. Se juodaan kuumana. Aikuiset voivat juoda alkoholipitoista glögiä.

Cheeses and crackers taste good with sweet mulled wine. 

Glögi is a type of flavored juice that can be based on blackcurrant juice, apple juice, mixed fruit juice or wine. It is seasoned with the same spices as gingerbread. It can also contain raisins and almond crumbs. It is drunk hot. Adults can drink alcoholic mulled wine.

Jouluaatto osa 2 Christmas Eve part 2

 

Koko perhe on musiikkihuoneessa. Lapset laulavat joululauluja ja Emilia säestää pianolla. Emilia on opetellut soittamaan joululauluja, sillä ne ovat hänelle tuttuja laulettuna.

The whole family is in the music room.The children sing Christmas carols and Emily accompanies  with piano. Emily has learned to play the carols, for they are familiar to her when sung.

 

 

Musiikkiesitysten  jälkeen lapset juovat kaakaota ja vanhemmat kahvia.

After musical performances the children drink cocoa and the parents coffee.

Pöydässä on monenlaisia herkkuja.

There is a variety of delicacies on the table.

Jouluaatto osa 1 Christmas Eve part 1

 

Marianne on saanut illallisen valmiiksi. Lähes kaikki ruuat on valmistettu etukäteen, jotta nyt olisi nopeampaa. 

Marianne has finished dinner. Almost all the dishes have been prepared in advance to make it faster now.

Osa ruuista on pöydällä ja osa on tiskipöydän päällä. Varsinaisella pöydällä on vasemmalta lukien täytettyjä oliiveja, rosollia, uunissa paistettua lohta, uunissa kypsennettyjä babyporkkanoita ja vihersalaattia.

Some of the food is on the table and some is on the sink. The actual table on the left has stuffed olives, rosol, oven-baked salmon, oven-baked baby carrots and green salad.

Tiskipöydällä on porsaan kinkku, kastiketta, keitettyjä perunoita, porkkanalaatikkoa ja lanttulaatikkoa.

On the sink there are pork ham, sauce, boiled potatoes, a carrot casserole and a swede casserole.

Lisäksi on kotona tehtyä juustoa ja hirvenpaistia.

There is also homemade cheese and deer roast.

Lapset katsovat, mitä pöydässä on tarjolla.

The children look at what is on the table.

Ruokailu päästään aloittamaan kello 17 aikoihin.

Meals can be started at 5 p.m.

Joulukuun 24. pv December the 24 th

 

Mariannen aamu on alkanut riisipuuron keittämisellä.Riisi on yksi kansallisruuistamme juuri aatto aamuna. Kymmeniä vuosia sitten riisi oli ylellisyyselintervike täällä. Riisipuuron keittäminen on pysynyt siitä huolimatta jouluruokanamme, vaikka elintasomme on noussut.

Puuron pinnalle sirotellaan kanelia ja sokeria. Puuro syödään kylmän maidon kera.

Puuron sekaan piilotetaan yksi manteli.Se joka se löytää, saa palkaksi makeisen.

Marianne´s morning began with cooking rice porridge. Rice is one of the traditionalfoods in Finland.Tens of years age rice was luxury foodstuff here. However, making rice porridge has remained as our Christmas food, although our standard of living has risen. 

Cinnamon and sugar are sprinkled on the porridge. And it is eaten with cold milk.

One almond is hidden in the porridge. He/she who gets it,receives a candy as pay.

Joulukuun 21.-22. päivä December the 21st-22nd

 

Isoäiti ja isoisä ovat koristelleet  isoäidin kasvihuoneen joulua varten. He toivottavat teidät tervetulleiksi katsomaan sitä.

Grandma and grandpa have decorated grandma´s greenhouse for Christmas.  They welcome you to watch it.

He ovat koristelleet jouluhuoneen käyttäen punaisia ja vihreitä tavaroita.

They have decorated the Christmas room using red and green items.

 

Jouluhuoneessa on kamiina, joten siellä on lämmin. Ulkona voi lämpötila olla jopa - 30 astetta C.

The Christmas room has a stove, so it’s warm there. Outside, the temperature can be as high as - 30 degrees C.

 

Huoneessa voi lämmittää ja juoda kuumaa glögiä ja syödä joulutorttuja, tähtipullia tai vihreitä kuulia. 

You can heat and drink hot mulled wine and eat plumpastries, starbuns and green marmalade balls.

 

Oven suussa on pieni tarjotinpöytä, jolla on punainen kaunis joulutähti.

At the door of the door is a small tray tablewith a beautiful red poinsettia.

Joulukuun 20. pv December the 20th

Mariannella on vielä kaikenlaista tehtävää. Hän on ollut ostoksilla ja muutamia lahjapaketteja pitää tehdä.

Marianne has all sorts of tasks. She has been shopping and a few gift packages need to be made.

Hän uskoo, että on hankkinut nyt kaiken tarpeellisen. Huomenna on vielä siistittävä jokaista huonetta vähän ja sitten kaikki on valmiina joulua varten.

She believes she has now acquired everythings he needs. Tomorrow we still have to tidy up each room a bit and then everything is ready for Christmas.
 

Joulukuun 19. päivä December the 19th

 

        

Eetua ja Emiliaa ihmetyttää, että äiti on leiponut viime päivinä todella paljon kaikenlaista joulua varten. Tänään lapset saivat koemaistaa "nisuäijiä". Eetua naurattaa nämä ihmisen näköiset pullat, joilla on rusinasilmät ja paidan napit.  Pullat maistuvat kylmän maidon kanssa herkullisilta.

Eetu and Emily are amazed that mom has really baked a lot for Christmas in recent days. Today the children got to taste human-looking wheat buns. They have a funny name, but they don´t know it in English. Their eyes and shirt buttons are small raisins. The buns taste delicious with cold milk.

Nisuäijiä ei ole kovin montaa, mutta Eetun mielestä äiti olisi voinut leipoa niitä paljon enemmän. Emilia on samaa mieltä.

There aren't very many wheat buns, but Eetu thinks mother could have baked them a lot more. Emily agrees.

Joulukuun 18. päivä December the 18th

 

Marianne ja Tuomo odottavat vieraita. Marianne on kattanut kahvipöydän musiikkihuoneeseen.

Marianne and Tuomo are waiting for guests. Marianne has laid the table in the music room.

 

 

Hän on myös laittanut pieanon päälle ja laatikoston päälle pari jouluista koristetta. 

She has also put a couple of Christmas decorations on the piano and drawer unit.

joulukuun 17. päivä December the 17th

 

On ollut kiireinen päivä tänään, mutta vanhempien makuuhuone on siivottu.

It has been a busy day today, but the master bedroom has been cleaned.

 Joulusta muistuttavat vaalen punaiset hyasintit ja joulutähti. Onneksi perheessä ei ole kukaan allerginen tuoksuille.

Light red hyacinths and a poinsettia resemble of Christmas. Fortunately, no one in the family is allergic to odors

 

Hyasintteja on useita. Pikkupöydälläkin on yksi. 

There are several hyacinth in the bedroom. On the sidetable there is a one.

Joulukuun 16. päivä December the 16th

 

.

Eetu ja Emilia ovat koristelleet aidon elävän joulukuusen. Koristeiden laittaminen on haasteellista ja Emilia on kiivennyt seisomaan tuolille, jotta ylettyisi kuusen yläosaan. Koristeita ei ole kovin paljoa, koska äiti haluaa nähdä aidon puun koristeiden seasta.

Eetu and Emily have decorated a real live Christmas tree. Putting the decorations on is challenging and Emilia has climbed to stand on a chair to reach the top of the spruce. There aren’t very many decorations because mom wants to see real pruce among the decorations.

 

Näyttääkö joulukuusi nyt hyvältä. Eetun mielestä näyttää, mutta Emilian mielestä palloja pitäisi siirtää eri paikkoihin.

 

 

Does the Christmas tree look good now. Eetu thinks it looks, but Emily thinks some baubles should be moved to different places. 

 

 

Kuusen valot näyttävät kivalta molempien mielestä.

They both like the lights.

Joulukuun 15. päivä December the 15th

Isä on kantanut lumisen ja jäisen joulukuusen olohuoneeseen. Kuusi on tavallinen suomalainen kuusi.Se on kuitenkin märkä ja kestää muutamia tunteja, että se on kuiva. Valot voi laittaa kuuseen vasta sitten.

Dad has carried a snowy and icy Christmas tree into the living room. The pruce is a common Finnish pruce. However it is wet and it takes some hours to dry. The lights can be put on after that.

Eetulla ja Emilialla on monenlaisia koristeita. Palloja on paljon. Niitten lisäksi on koristenauhaa, jääpuikkoja ja tähtiä.

Eetu and Emily have many kind of decorations. They have many baubles. In addition of them there are tinsel, icicles and stars on the table.

He päättävät koristella kuusen huomenna, koska se vie kauan aikaa ja nyt on jo myöhä.

They decide to decorate the Christmas tree tomorrow, because it will take a long time decorate it and now it is too late.

Joulukuun 14. päivä December the 14th

 

Emilia on odottanut useita päiviä, että leivotaan pipareita. Nyt on se hetki koittanut. Äiti on jo aloittanut leipomisen, mutta Emilia tulee paikalle myöhemmin ja on suruissaan tästä

Emily has waited several days for a baking day of gingerbread cookies. Now the moment has come. Mom has already started baking, but Emily comes later and is a little bit sad about that.

 

Hän saakin aloittaa heti pipareiden koristelun ja äiti jatkaa leipomista. Koristelu on haasteellista, mutta epäonnistuneet kuviot eivät onneksi vaikuta pipareiden makuun.

So she can start decorating the gingerbread cookies right away and her mother will continue baking. The decoration is challenging, but fortunately the failed decoration don’t affect the taste of the gingerbread.

Pipareita tulee paljon ja Emilia on innoissaan siitä.

There will be a lot of gingerbread cookies and Emily is excited about it.

Äiti esittelee Emilialle tekemäänsä piparkakkutaloa. Hän teki sen yöllä, kun lapset nukkuivat. Äiti kertoo, että tekeminen oli hänelle vaikeaa ja sen vuoksi talo ei näytä kovin hienolta.

Mom presents Emily to her gingerbread house. She did it at night when the children were asleep. Mom says it was difficult for her to do it and that’s why the house doesn’t look very nice.

Joulukuun 13. päivä December the 13th

                            

Tänä aamuna Tuomo pakkasi reppuaan työhuoneessaan, kun hän huomasi kirjahyllyn lähellä jotain outoa.

This morning Tuomo packed his backbag in his study and noticed something strange near the bookcase.

Laatikon takaa näkyi jotain punaista ja vihreää. Hän siirtää laatikon pois.

There was something red and green behind a box. He moves the box away.

Ja siirtyy istumaan lähemmäs. Seinässä vieressä on pieniä puita ja pensaita sekä seinässä on ovi, joka johtaa seinän läpi jonnekin, mutta minne ja miksi. Onko Sinulla ehdotuksia?
